Physical Lack of Access emerged as an Accessible Infrastructure topic area at The People’s Roadmap Workshop – Manhattan Edition (December 7, 2017). Use this thread to continue that discussion!

Community thoughts about Current State

  • LinkNYC distribution has geographic gaps in some of the areas that could benefit from it most
  • Citibike is not available in areas that need it
  • Citibike is not distributed fairly (Park Slope but no Lefferts Garden?)
  • NYC mesh can’t get to NYCHA
  • LinkNYC sees homeless users as a problem and not an opportunity
  • PACE service is bad, need better public transit for people with disabilities
  • Subway Elevators (of course)
  • Trains not running / delays → Bad access

Community thoughts about Desired Future State

  • LinkNYC prioritizes service to populations in need
  • Putting wifi access points in buildings (as opposed to street corners)
  • NYC mesh gateways on NYCHA buildings
  • Community tech oversight groups
  • City service request portal e.g. trees, citibike stations, LinkNYC
  • Subway elevators plan
  • City has reliably working elevators in subways
  • Uber for PACE
  • Any (tech) infrastructure projects that receive public funding are transparent about deployment plans and the expected impact on different demographics and communities
